An exciting and experimental filmmaking workshop that introduces participants to 16mm ‘found footage’ filmmaking and creative projection.

Participants sample and rework 16mm images using a variety of tactile analogue processes, including hand painting, mark making, scratching, cutting and close editing of the filmstrip.

There are also opportunities to explore optical sound, tape-recorded sound and live performance. Participants are able to test out work in the session, and collaboration with others is encouraged.

The workshop ends with screening/performances of all work made.

past workshops:

2013: sound festival, University of Aberdeen | 2012: Flip Animation Festival, Wolverhampton

In September 2013, OKO were invited to run a 16mm camera-less/found footage workshop for Scratch at Sound Festival, Aberdeen. Participants were introduced to film as a tactile and physical medium - scratching, painting, cutting up and re-splicing celluloid to create unique audio-visual collages. This video is a compilation of all the participants' films, which were initially screened at the workshop as loops. www.oko-lab.org.uk http://katherinegroo.wordpress.com/

A compilation of films made by participants at the workshop we facilitated for FLIP this year. Participants created film loops by cutting up, re-splicing and working directly onto 16mm film (the soundtrack to this video is the live optical sound from the filmstrip). Thanks to Sam @ Flatpack, Flip Animation Festival and the Light House, Wolverhampton.
